Chief Executive Officer (CEO)
Mr. Banhu Zhang was appointed as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) effective from 21st August 2025.
He is not new to the company. He was appointed as Deputy General Manager of Wesizwe Platinum Limited in February 2022, and later took on the role of Head of Procurement and IT in November 2024. In the second half of 2024, he joined the Executive Committee (EXCO) and has acted in the role of CEO on multiple occasions.
He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Design, Manufacturing and Automation from Xi’an University of Architecture and Technology, and a Master’s degree in Construction Machinery from Xi’an Jiaotong University. He is also a certified Intermediate Mechanical Engineer.
With nearly 20 years of experience in mining, Mr. Zhang began his career at Jinchuan Group, where he led major underground infrastructure projects and played a key role in the development of the 3 Mtpa Eastern Low-Grade Ore Project. He is also the holder of 11 Chinese utility model patents, demonstrating a strong track record in innovation and mine engineering.
At Wesizwe, Mr. Zhang is leading efforts to ramp up production to 1 million tonnes per annum (tpa) by 2027, while advancing the development of a 3 million tpa integrated mining and processing system at Bakubung Platinum Mine. His focus is on operational efficiency, innovation, and positioning Wesizwe as a competitive force in South Africa’s platinum sector.
